Purpose/Description of the Job:
RGC’s Safety Manager is responsible for working with RGC Project Teams and RGC’s Safety Director to identify specific hazards on RGC project sites, such as potential electrocution, toxic substances, heights or threats to human life, and to develop strategies to minimize or eliminate the risks or exposure to such hazards. This position involves conducting safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with government regulations, as well as ensuring that Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures are followed. The Safety Manager will assist construction crews to delivering quality projects to Owners in a safe environment, within RGC’s Best Practices, and in a highly collaborative manner with internal and external project teams.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, county and local safety related guidelines
- Screen projects and project sites before work starts, identifying safety-related risks and monitoring risk mitigation
- Assist RGC’s Safety Director to provide recommendations and assistance to Project Management and Field Operations Teams, with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation and safe material or substance utilization
- Use safety software to inspect, evaluate and manage active RGC projects
- Coordinate accident/incident investigations in direct collaboration with Vice President, Field Operations and Safety Director
- Liaise with external parties such as government-employed inspectors to evaluate RGC construction sites
- Work with RGC Project Management and Field Operations teams to devise and implement solutions to safety-related issues on project sites
- Review blueprint designs for disposal systems, evacuation plans, lighting, and ventilation to ensure minimum or no danger to the safety or health of the site guests or workers
- Work with RGC’s Safety Director and Senior Management team to create plans for emergency procedures
- Continually update RGC’s Best Practices relating to safety processes and procedures
- Conduct walkthrough inspections at project sites with project personnel
- Maintain safety related paperwork, including OSHA 300 logs and safety training certifications
- Discipline Subcontractors and employees who fail to comply with minimum safety standards
- Represent RGC in meetings with government bodies and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety
- Interact with licensed bodies for regular update on legal regulations and program initiatives on workplace safety and environmental issues.

- Assist the Safety Director with internal personnel and third-party administrators/legal counsel to effectively investigate and resolve claims in an efficient and effective manner
- Work with the employee(s) to schedule doctor and therapy visits
- Coordinate with RGC’s Senior Management and Superintendents to determine work restriction requirements for the employee, if any
- Work with the Safety Director to perform the investigation of accidents, injuries and unsafe working conditions
- Remain current on federal, state, county and local safety regulations.
- Keep management advised of new or revised regulations
- Work with the Safety Director to plan and implement RGC’s Safety Program to train managers and employees in work site Safety Best Practices, safe equipment operating techniques and fire prevention for job sites and office
- Train company employees on safe work practices and emergency procedures
- Provide training and education, as required, by Federal and State safety regulations
- Coordinate and update RGC’s Safety Manual and other documents with the use of safety software to keep all RGC Operations team members informed and up to date
- Perform other duties, as apparent or assigned
- Conduct onsite safety trainings including but not limited to scaffolding, rigging, fall management, confined space, MEWP, emergency response
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum, 2-3 years’ experience in construction, identifying threats and developing appropriate protection measures
- General Contractor experience preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations relating to the specific trade or activity being managed
- Proven written and verbal communication abilities
- Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Requirements:
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English
- Formal safety training, including OSHA 500 in the construction industry and training in scaffolding, crane management, steel erection, emergency response, fall management, excavation and confined space, rigging, and hazardous waste
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a construction job site setting and in an office setting.
Physical Demands:
- Works significant portion of day outside on construction site
- Able to walk or stand for long periods of time
- Able to lift/move up to 70 lbs.
- Able to deal with the physical activities associated with a construction site (stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist)
- Able to negotiate work areas under construction
- Ability to access heights via ladders or scaffolding as most of the job would require climbing to access construction above ground level
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Standard day and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours are required as the job duties demand.
Travel:
Travel to other RGC job sites and to RGC offices is required.
